Will the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Match the iPad Air?

sony xperia z2 tablet vs ipad air

The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet had been unveiled at the the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain recently and is considered by many as the most exciting device against others which were also introduced at the event. It was supposedly built to battle it out with the iPad Air. But question is, will the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet match the iPad Air?

The iPad Air’s Reign Challenged

Physical Built

When it was released, there was no doubt that the iPad Air was the lightest and thinnest tablet in the planet. It measures 9.7 inches (240 mm) in height, 6.6 inches (169.5 mm) in width, and only 0.29 inch (7.5 mm) in width plus weighs only 1 pound (469 g). The Sony Xperia Z2 challenges that with only 6.4mm in width and 439g (for the LTE version) or 426g (for the Wi-Fi model) in weight despite a large 10.1” screen.

Both devices look physically stunning with their metal and glass overall built. Although the Air looks more elegant and classy physically, the Z2 tablet boasts of an exceptional feature: it is IP58 water, scratch, and dust resistant, making it remain neat looking even with minimal cleaning alone. IP or ingress protection measures a device’s resistance to both water and dust. Speaking of being waterproof, the Z2 can survive under the sink amongst your dishes or in the tub when you bathe. You can also take pictures even when swimming underwater.

Display and Resolution

As for resolution, the Z2 tablet comes with a 1920 x 1200 Triluminos Display with IPS technology. It is impressive although the Air’s 2048×1536 resolution with 264 pixels per inch (ppi) is larger. Triluminos Display provides more spectrum of colors. It also comes with the X-reality features which enable razor sharp images than ever by reducing pixels, improving outline and texture, enhancing color and contrast, and noise reduction for videos.

The 5mp iSight camera for the Air is left behind by Z2’s 8MP. For video calling sessions, the Air is beaten again with its 1.2 MP FaceTime HD camera against Z2’s 2.2MP offer. You can also take pictures even with low light conditions and capture videos with low noise levels with the Z2 tablet through the Exmor RS™ for mobile technology.

The Air’s well celebrated A7 processor and M7 coprocessor are only powered by 1.4GHz dual core, whereas, the Z2 tablet comes with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 2.3GHz quad-core processor with the Adreno 330 GPU (20% better than 320). This is comparable to the likes of phones that are as powerful as computers and can support HD as well as 3D video gaming.

Battery Life

The 8820 mAh is exceptional for the Air and promises to deliver up to 10 hours of usage even when surfing the web via Wi-Fi. The Z2 comes short with only 6000 mAh but offers a battery stamina mode to conserve battery consumption.

It’s the operating system battle which cannot declare any winner yet. Z2 tablet runs on Android 4.4 KitKat while Air comes with the latest iOS7.

Sony Xperia Z2 Phone

By the way, there is a different Sony Xperia Z2, a smart phone, just so no one gets confused between the upcoming tablet and the released phone version. We are of course discussing the tablet in this post.

More Features of the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet

  • Sound – experience 3D surround sound speakers, digital noise cancellation, and Clear Audio technologies which include Clear Stereo, Clear Bass and Clear Phase. The latter is an audio technology lessens distortion and improves balance as well as clarity.
  • Internet – LTE/4G connection with 150 mps download speed and 50 mbps upload speed
  • Connectivity – with the Miracast wireless display, the Z2 can perform screen mirroring or DLNA with the use of an MHL cable even without NFC

More Features of the iPad Air

Here are more notable features that will make you love this device:

  • LED-backlit multi‑touch display with IPS technology – similar with the Z2 tablet
  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating – this keeps the screen appear clean despite countless finger strokes
  • 2x faster Wi-Fi compared to its predecessor with up to 300 mbps speed
  • Video features include 1080p HD video recording, tap to focus while recording, video stabilisation, face detection, backside illumination, and 3x video zoom
  • Dual microphone
  • Siri – as always, built in feature enables voice recognition and voice command to perform functions like sending messages, setting reminders, and more.
  • iCloud – lets you access, edit, and share files even while on the go; you can also pause and resume download whenever there is web access
  • Airplay, Airprint, and Airdrop – Airplay lets you wirelessly play videos from your device when connected to a compatible HDTV like the Apple TV; AirPrint works with compatible apps like Mail, Safari, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iBooks, and iPhoto so you can print documents from the iPad Air; AirDrop is so much better than Bluetooth and allows other iOS7 users to send or receive files from you and vice-versa
  • Environment friendly – mercury free LCD display, arsenic free display glass, BFR free, PVC free, and recyclable aluminum enclosure

Winner between the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet and the iPad Air?

Based on several factors we have compared, the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet appears to be victorious over the iPad Air but for Apple lovers, whose lives had been changed by this thin and light iPad (although no longer the thinnest and lightest now), the latter is still the winner.

4 Ways You can Beat Flappy Bird

flappy bird tutorial

from article.wn.com

Flappy Bird may no longer be available in app stores but its legacy plays on through millions of players worldwide. This simple but very challenging game may entertain you but can frustrate you at the same time, enough to cause screen scratches on your iPhone or even break the poor device. I’ve even heard some literally throw their device in frustration!

So how do you beat this game? You’re lucky enough to even reach a score of over 20, 50, even close to 100. But there are players who claim the bragging rights to have beaten the game. How did they do it? Can you be able to do the same? Find out.

There are four ways you can beat Flappy Bird. The first two are presented through videos.

1. Cheat

In this video, the player shows a tutorial that will hack the game in order to make the bird simply fly over the pipes until you reach the last one. Hacking and cheating in a game isn’t anything new. In fact, almost all popular games and apps have cheating methods in order to win the game. In Candy Crush for one, you can set an unlimited timer for timed levels and specify number of moves even up to unlimited as well for levels with a limited number of moves. In Temple Run, you can have a never ending supply of gems to save your player and coins to purchase upgrades. The list goes on.

Not your style? The next video might interest you.

2. Beat it

If you can’t beat them, join them is not an applicable motto to this game. Instead, say “if you can’t beat it, beat it!” Literally, players have been pissed off not progressing towards the next level with this game and started beating it by thrashing their phone. Some have even posted about their rants through YouTube such as this video.

Ah, poor phone! If you have no plans of destroying your precious gadget over a rather seemingly ruthless game, refer to the third option.

3. Old School Style

With a little patience and lots of practice, you can soon master the perfect old school style of beating this game. This entails no less than honest to goodness gaming by tapping your phone screen at the right moment alone to keep the bird in flight while avoiding obstacles.

Looks can definitely be deceiving sometimes so don’t be fooled by the sheer simplicity of this game. A lot of skills can be tested on the waters when playing such as hand and eye movement coordination. But practice makes perfect so they say. Just keep on playing and you will soon reap the rewards of sleepless nights and corns on your fingers.

4. Alternative

Last but not the least is the option to replace the game with an alternative. After Flappy Bird’s removal from app stores had been announced, several similar games had surfaced. All of them are using the same mechanism of a main character dodging pipes. Some of such include City Bird, Splashy Fish, and Flying Cyrus. The latter had been the most well received amongst all Flappy Bird wannabees. It showcases Miley Cyrus flying with sledgehammers and wrecking balls as obstacles.

Still want to beat Flappy Bird? Go over our four featured ways on how to beat the game and utilize your preferred option.

Flap, Flap, Flap, and Away!

flappy bird

The game app Flappy Bird is definitely not a flop. In fact, it had been downloaded over 50 million times worldwide with about $50,000 earnings daily from game advertisements. So why did its creator Dong Nguyen remove it from app stores including the Google Play Store and iTunes last February 9, 2014? Simple, the game developer didn’t want fame and fortune to ruin his simple life.

Vietnamese Nguyen had become an overnight sensation following the popularity of his simple game application Flappy Bird. The app’s premise is easy; a player just needs to guide the bird to safely evade each pipe by tapping the screen to keep the bird in flight. But it’s the same simplicity which was questioned by critics. Some argue that Nguyen ingenuity or lack thereof which had been targeted by experts in the game development industry may have challenged or offended Nguyen. Some sites had also reported about the game’s similarity with a French made app called Piou Piou as well as with Nintendo’s Super Mario Brothers series due to the green colored pipes. Flappy Bird’s developer could be possibly sued for intellectual property copyright infringement.

Nguyen, however, denies legal issues and explained that he just wanted to keep his life simple as per his Twitter account tweets. The guy has a Wikipedia page now too by the way. 🙂 Furthermore, the developer is also looking into the possibility of developing a sequel to the most popular game this year by far. Released in May 2013, Flappy Bird had become a viral sensation throughout various social media portals like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Even when it was removed from app stores, Twitter hash tags relating to the game had been trending.

This addictive game left numerous mobile phone screens broken because despite the simplicity of the game’s mechanics, it’s quite challenging to maneuver the bird in flight in order to evade obstacles and prevent it from hitting the pipes or falling. Many had also resorted to selling their actual phone units with this app installed to interested parties since it’s no longer available for download. Several similar applications have also started to surface, hoping to replace this phenomenal game. And the last (but not recommended) option is to hack the APK in order to manually copy the game onto another device via a computer.

Although Flappy Bird is no longer available for new users to download, it still remains a very popular game for existing players. RIP Flappy Bird, well, at least on the app stores but not on addicted players.
